Privacy policy

The short version

The editor runs in your browser. Background photos, embedded images and video, and the text you type are processed on your own device, and rendering and export never involve a server.

The same is true of the video captioner: the clip you upload, its transcription (done on your device) and the exported MP4 all stay in your browser. Nothing about a video you caption is uploaded to us.

If you sign in, three things are stored on our side so they can follow you between devices: your projects, your clips as documents (the captions, timings and layout — not the footage), and the profile picture you set for your posts. Nothing else is uploaded — not your backgrounds, not your embedded photos, not your video. If you do not sign in, nothing is uploaded at all.

Because a saved clip is a document and not its media, opening one on a device that does not have the footage asks you to add the file back, the way a desktop video editor does with a moved project. That is deliberate. A clip in your account is not a backup of your video, and we would rather say so than quietly hold a copy of it.

What is stored, and where

• On your device. Your projects and every image and video you add are saved in your browser's IndexedDB storage, so your work survives a refresh. Clearing site data removes them. If you are signed out, that is the only copy that exists anywhere.
• On our servers. Nothing at all unless you sign in. Signing in is optional and uses Google, which tells us your email address and name. After that we store your projects (the text and settings of each graphic), your clip documents (captions, timings and layout), and the profile picture you set for your posts. We do not store your background photos, the images or video you embed in a post, the video you caption, or anything you export.

Analytics and tracking

There are no analytics scripts, no advertising pixels, no third-party trackers and no cookies used for tracking. The site loads no resources from third-party domains — fonts and images are served from this domain.

Image and video metadata

Images you add are re-encoded before use. This strips EXIF metadata, which commonly includes GPS coordinates and camera identifiers. That happens for your protection: it means a location embedded in a holiday photo cannot leak into a graphic you publish.

Video is different, and it is worth being precise about how. There is no practical way to re-encode a clip on the way in, so a video you add keeps whatever metadata its file already carried, including any location recorded by the camera. Two things limit what that can affect. The clip is never uploaded — it stays in your browser's storage on this device. And when you export an MP4, every frame is redrawn onto a blank canvas, so the file you download is built from pixels rather than copied from the original container. Metadata in the source cannot reach the video you post.

Exported PNG files carry a small text note recording that the image was created with this tool. It contains no information about you, your device, or your project. Exported MP4 files carry no such note.

Deleting your data

Deleting a project removes it from your account. Signing out leaves the local copies on that device; clearing the site's data removes those too. To have the account itself and everything in it deleted, use the contact page and ask.
